Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3-4
Verse 4 is one of Belinda’s and my “life verses”. We believe that as we delight in the Lord, He puts His desires for us in our hearts. At that point as we continue to seek Him and His will, He will fulfill those desires.
This Sasebo trip was with the intent of making connections in the community. We got to spend time with the Martin’s getting to know them better, and we are thankful for their wonderful hospitality and letting us stay in their home.
Besides attending the Sasebo Expo – learn to spin plates anyone? How about folding origami or other community fun? We also had the opportunity to attend the local community group meeting and meet some of the locals who are interested in creating more synergy between the city residents and various foreigners living in the community.
These photos were taken by a local film crew for the Expo:
Is spinning your wheels anything like spinning plates?
Candidly, we don’t want to go to Sasebo just to ‘spin plates’, but to be used by God to lead people to Jesus. We were kind of scratching our heads at first, asking ourselves, “What are you doing Lord?” We had had the expectation of making some key relationship and community connections, but leading up to Sunday, we had made only a few casual acquaintances and introductions.
Then on Sunday, we attended the church service on the Sasebo Naval Base. Here we made what we feel might be the most important connection yet. Before and after the church service, we were able to speak with Chaplain Philip Carson, who is very interested and even excited about getting us connected with the various Christian workers and ministry efforts in the area.
As has been our missionary history since beginning our adventure in Japan, ministry and connections for us have often come though the influence of the military presence in Japan.
Sasebo is no exception.
We are excited about the possibilities and new connections garnered in Sasebo this last weekend. We do not want to go ahead of God or falter behind. Our heart’s desire is that we would have God’s guidance, direction, vision and timing for Sasebo.
Please continue to pray as we seek the Lord for Sasebo.
We are endeavoring to update our prayer and praise on our website on a regular basis as we continue to seek God's will for Sasebo: Link:
