Our Refuge And Strength ...

  Our Refuge And Strength …

“But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all Thy works.” Psalm 73:28

The wonderful result of spending time with God, of being near Him in prayer, in devotions, of running to Him for help and allowing Him to be our place of refuge is that we experience God’s goodness toward us and are able and even excited to tell others about the good things that He is doing in us, through us and around us.

When we focus on all the difficult circumstances and issues in our lives we can be weighed down by them and forget the goodness of God; and instead of telling others about His good works, we will find ourselves complaining and wondering if God is working at all. Oh, how much better to enjoy the nearness of God, that we may tell of all His works!

As you know, China was recently devastated by a very large earthquake. Besides the thousands killed, 5 million people are now homeless and the damage and needs are huge. Some of you have asked whether we would be sending in a team from CRASH to help. We weren’t sure about being able to send in a team, since we don’t yet have any contacts in China, nor do we have anyone who speaks the language. But after receiving a lot of inquiries about sending a team, and communication with some missionaries already ministering in China, it became clear that God was opening the doors.

So, we will be sending a small CRASH team into China from June 2 through June 13 to help with the logistics and organization of relief teams, as well as assessing needs for future teams to come and help with clean up and rebuilding. Please pray for Pastor Jonathan, Sherwood Patterson and Ted McCorkle who will be going in as the advance team. Please pray for the rest of the staff as we fill in for our other team members. Besides the day to day ministry, including teaching in the school, there will be a steady flow of reports and information that need to be translated and delivered to the web.

Grace News
Sherwood Patterson and his family, missionaries here at Grace, were in a car accident two weeks ago. A young man riding a motor scooter was hit and injured. None of the Patterson’s were injured, but were traumatized by the incident and are now having to work through difficult matters of police reports, financial burdens and insurance claims. Sherwood has been visiting the young man, Fukuhara san, daily in the hospital and has begun to develop a friendly relationship with him.

Fukuhara san has just had surgery on his knee and ankle, but he has no other injuries and is showing good progress in healing. Please pray for him and his family, that they would understand and know the love and care of God through Sherwood’s visits and that God would heal him quickly. Pray also for Sherwood and his family as they work through all the emotional, legal and financial matters.

At the beginning of this month John had the opportunity to participate in a seminar for missionaries on building websites sponsored by JEMA. It was a blessing for him to be able to use his experience and knowledge of teaching and training here among fellow missionary workers. It was a blessing for all who attended also, as they have been in need of someone to help them in this technological area. Please pray as John would like to continue to provide this kind of support for these and other missionaries here in Japan.

Personal News
We will be coming back to California for 7 weeks, arriving on June 27 and staying until August 12. We are looking forward spending time with our children and parents who haven’t seen us in over a year and also to meeting up with as many of you as possible during that time to share what God has been doing in His ministry here.

We will, of course, be in need of housing and a vehicle while we are there, so if you are able to provide a room or car for part or all of our stay, please contact us and let us know. We are so grateful for all your prayers and support.

Thank you for your partnership and prayers as we work together to bring the gospel to the people of Japan!

God's Blessings,
